The District NOW: The Shadowboxers Become Men of the Woods with Justin Timberlake
Adam Hoffman, Matt Lipkins, and Scott Tyler came together during their college days in Atlanta and formed a pop band called The Shadowboxers. Nine years later, the guys are opening for one of the hottest pop concerts on the bill for 2018: Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods Tour.
“We were looking for a way to break in, so we would create pop cover videos on YouTube,” Lipkins explained. “We tweeted our cover of Justin’s ‘Pusher Love Girl’ at him and he saw it. After seeing the rest of our material, he contacted us on Twitter and met with us in Atlanta during his 20/20 Experience Tour.”
The rest is history it seems.
“We are a pop band and we don’t shy away from that label. We draw from soul, Motown, and voices of the 70’s and 80’s such as Stevie Wonders and Michael Jackson,” Hoffman said.
The Shadowboxers start on the tour with Timberlake on March 18 and couldn’t be more grateful and excited for the opportunities that they hope will develop after their experience on the road.
“We want to make it on our own and get real exposure for new music we’ve been work on in secret for the past nine years,” Tyler said.
Speaking of said music, the group is set to drop a new EP on March 23 called Apollo that will feature six tracks including their two released songs “Hot Damn” and “Runaway,” and their time on tour will bring their sound to hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
“The thing that people will notice [about us] is our three-part harmony. Together we make up the lead singer of the group,” Hoffman said.
Timberlake certainly noticed and awarded them prime real estate on his summer stage to make sure the rest of the nation does too.
“We are students of the pop genre. What we want most is to continue to evolve and continue to just play shows and make music for people,” Tyler said when asked about the future.
